Daktronics Scoreboards
Complete guide for connecting Daktronics scoreboards to ScoreScrape. Learn about cable requirements, setup instructions, supported models, and troubleshooting for Daktronics scoreboard integration.
Overview
Daktronics is one of the most popular scoreboard manufacturers in the world, known for their reliable controllers and comprehensive sports coverage. ScoreScrape supports a wide range of Daktronics models through their standard serial output protocol.
Supported Models
Cable Requirements
Daktronics scoreboards typically use RS-232 serial communication via a DB9 connector. You'll need a DB9 serial cable (straight-through, not null modem) to connect the scoreboard controller to your computer. If your computer doesn't have a serial port, you'll also need a USB-to-Serial adapter. Make sure to enable serial output in your Daktronics controller settings (usually found in the Setup or Configuration menu).
Setup Instructions
Physical Connection
Connect the DB9 serial cable from the serial output port on your Daktronics controller to your computer. If using a USB-to-Serial adapter, connect it to an available USB port. Note the COM port number assigned to the connection (you can find this in Device Manager on Windows or System Information on Mac).
Scoreboard Configuration
On your Daktronics controller, navigate to the Setup or Configuration menu. Enable Serial Output and set the baud rate to 19200 (this is the most common setting, but check your controller manual). Set the data format to 8-N-1 (8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit). Save the settings and restart the controller if required.
Bridge Configuration
In the ScoreScrape Bridge software, create a new bridge and select "Daktronics" as the scoreboard type. Enter the COM port number from Step 1. Set the baud rate to match your controller (typically 19200). Click "Test Connection" to verify the setup. Once connected, you should see live data from your scoreboard.
Common Issues
Connection not detected
Verify that serial output is enabled on your Daktronics controller. Check that you're using the correct COM port number. Try a different USB port if using a USB-to-Serial adapter. Ensure the baud rate matches between the controller and Bridge software.
Data not updating
Make sure the game clock is running on the scoreboard. Some Daktronics controllers only send data when the clock is active. Verify the serial cable is fully seated in both the controller and computer. Check that no other software is using the same COM port.
Incorrect data displayed
Confirm you've selected the correct sport type in the Bridge configuration. Verify the data format settings (8-N-1) match on both the controller and Bridge. Try power cycling the Daktronics controller.
